Deirdre Smith Gilmer  Deirdre just recently moved to Asheville from New York City. She is a certified Anusara Yoga instructor, as well as a Yoga Alliance Certified teacher. Deirdre danced professionally in NYC for the last 13 years as she simultaneously discovered her love for yoga and for teaching. She taught on the faculty of the dance departments of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Long Island University, and Ballet Arts at City Center. She was also on faculty at the World Yoga Center, Shri Yoga, The Yoga Room, and Yoga Mandali studios.Deirdre trained in the Iyengar and Ashtanga methods before discovering Anusara. She received her BFA in dance from the North Carolina School of the Arts and made it back every summer to North Carolina, where she directed the dance program for the Governor’s School West in Winston-Salem. She now teaches yoga for the American Dance Festival in Durham. Deirdre continues to visit New York as she directs the creative movement program and begins a new yoga program for children in the Imagine Early Learning Centers. She has just begun teaching for MAHEC and looks forward to getting to know the One Center Yoga community! |
