Fran Ross

Fran began doing yoga in her 20s, finding that its noncompetitive, gentle, introverted style suited her. Years later, having developed osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia, she found in yoga much of what her body, mind, and spirit needed in terms of contemplative movement—and she always felt better after practice.

At the tender age of 56 Fran became a certified Kripalu Yoga instructor and since then has completed a 200-hour teacher training in Anusara Yoga with Deb Neubauer. She taught at Union College, in public school districts, in private studios, and in workplaces in upstate New York before moving to Asheville in summer of 2006.

“I love the yogic approach to life, and I love how yoga can help damaged muscles, joints, and psyches,” Fran reports. “I intend to continue learning, practicing, and teaching as long as I possibly can.”

Fran is also an expressive arts therapist, and she teaches in the Arts & Ideas program at UNCA. She holds certifications from the National Yoga Alliance and Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association. She is a writer and poet who enjoys exploring the connections between yoga and all art forms.
